Website redesign

The short answer

Redesign a website when the structure is the problem, such as a site that is slow, hard to use on a phone or no longer says what you do, and fix it when the problem is a single page or setting. A safe redesign keeps your domain, keeps your page addresses or redirects every one that changes, and keeps the content that already ranks. A full multi-page redesign with us in Sacramento goes live in about a week and runs $4,500 to $14,000.

When is it time to redesign a website?

Redesign when the problem is how the site is built, not what one page says. If the structure fights you every time you need a change, tweaking will not fix it.

A quick test: ask what you would change first. A phone number, a photo or a paragraph means a fix. Almost everything means a redesign.

Signs a redesign will pay off

Any one of these can justify a redesign. Two or three together settle it.

  • It is hard to read or use on a phone, where many local customers first find you.
  • It looks dated enough that new customers may doubt the business.
  • It no longer describes what you sell, who you serve or where you work.
  • You cannot change a word without calling whoever built it.
  • Pages stay slow even after the images are trimmed.
  • People visit but few call, book or send a message.

Signs a fix is enough

If the design still suits the business, a few targeted fixes cost less and carry less risk to your rankings. Typical fixes are oversized images, a broken contact form, missing page titles and out-of-date hours or phone numbers.

How do you redesign a website without losing your search rankings?

Rankings belong to your domain and your pages, not the design on top of them. A redesign loses them when addresses change without a plan, pages quietly disappear, or the words that earned the ranking get rewritten away. Protect those three and you are free to change everything else.

Keep your domain

Keep the same domain unless there is a strong reason to change it. Years of links, listings and customer memory point at it. If it has to change, every old address needs a redirect to its new one, which turns a redesign into a much bigger project.

Keep your page addresses, or redirect every one that changes

A page address (a URL) is the web address of one page. Where a page keeps its place, we keep its address exactly as it is. Where an address has to change, we set up a permanent redirect (a 301) from the old address to the closest matching new page. Redirect each old page to a new page on the same topic, never everything to the home page, which throws away what those pages earned.

Keep the content that already ranks

List the pages that bring in visitors and calls today. Keep the words people search for: the page title, the main heading and the text that explains the service. Improve the layout, photos and clarity around them without rewriting the part that earns the ranking.

Keep your business name, address and phone number the same as on your Google Business Profile, too. Help beyond the redesign, such as your profile, reviews and citations, is the local SEO side of the job.

What can go wrong in a redesign, and how do we prevent it?

Most redesign damage happens at launch, not in the design, and nearly all of it is avoidable. Here are the common problems and how we prevent each one.

What is the website redesign process?

A redesign starts with your current site, not a blank page. Here is the order we work in, and you see the finished site running before you commit.

  • Review: we go through your current site and goals and list every page worth keeping.
  • Plan: we decide which addresses stay, which change and where each old one redirects.
  • Design: custom layouts and copy, shown as they take shape so you can steer them.
  • Build: we hand-code the site for speed and carry your pages, images and posts across, so you never re-type a word.
  • Launch: the site goes live on our servers, the redirects switch on and we check that Google can find it.
  • After launch: we monitor and refine, and Flare Care covers hosting, security monitoring and priority support.

What we need from you

Access to your current site, domain and hosting, so nothing is lost in the move. Add your honest view of what works today, and the rest is ours.

How much does a website redesign cost, and how long does it take?

Cost and timing depend on how many pages the new site has and what it needs to do. Prices are ranges, and after a short call we send a fixed, itemized proposal, so you know the number before you commit.

  • Launch, $900 to $2,500: a sharp one-page redesign, live in 48 hours.
  • Signature, $4,500 to $14,000: a custom site of five to eight pages, with an editor so you can change content yourself. Live in about a week.
  • Platform, $15,000 to $40,000: a site with real product logic, such as a client portal or a custom web app. Weeks, not months.

Add-ons and a lower-risk first step

Conversion copywriting runs $1,200 to $4,000, an extra page set $600 to $1,400, and a new logo, palette and type system $2,500 to $6,000. Not ready for the whole redesign? Starting at $500, a Spark Sprint gives you a homepage concept or one page built live, and the whole cost is credited toward your build. Compare every tier on the packages page.

How long does a website redesign take?

The timeline is the tier's: 48 hours for one page, about a week for a full custom site, and weeks, not months, for a larger build. We put the launch date in writing before we start, and if we miss it your first month of Flare Care is on us. Every redesign is custom website design, hand-coded, with no template and no theme.

What does it cost after launch?

Every build lives on our servers, so Flare Care is on by default after launch. The Essential level covers managed hosting, updates, security monitoring and priority support for $95 to $250 a month.

Website redesign for Sacramento businesses and the region

We are based in Sacramento and work remotely, so a redesign runs over video calls and shared links. That works for owners across the region, from Roseville and Folsom to Elk Grove, Davis and Rancho Cordova. The areas we serve page has the detail.

A redesign is also the best moment to tighten your local basics. We build your category and city into the page title and main heading, match your name and phone to your Google Business Profile, add local business schema and give each service its own page, so a search for your service plus near me has something to match.

If you serve more than one town, say so plainly, with a sentence or a page for each place. We can also claim and clean up your Google business listing and point it at the new site. See how we build on our work page.

Questions

Website redesign: common questions

Will a redesign hurt my Google rankings?

It does not have to. Rankings are lost when addresses change without redirects, pages disappear or the text that earned the ranking is rewritten away. We keep your domain, keep your addresses where we can, redirect the rest and carry your best content across.

How long does a website redesign take?

A one-page redesign goes live in 48 hours and a full multi-page site takes about a week. Larger builds with real product logic take weeks, not months. You get the launch date in writing before we start.

Do I need to change my domain name?

No, and we recommend keeping it, because years of links and listings point at it. Your new site runs on our servers with Flare Care, and once the 14-day Love-It-Live window passes it is yours, code and all.

Can you keep my existing content and photos?

Yes. We carry your existing pages, images and posts across to the new site, so you never have to re-type a word. Where the message needs to change, we write the copy with you.

What if I do not like the new site?

Do I need a redesign or just a fix?
